I need to install new maps. When visiting the suggested map website, I right find the correct map, then at the top right click on the wmf file link. Then I save it into the maps folder in begraphic on my hard drive. When I look in the hard drive directly through explorer or through the begraphic program, its not there?

You have to store maps in the dedicated folder
C:\Program Files\BeGraphic\BeGraphic\Content\Maps

But be careful, because the map are usually downloaded in a common Windows folder
(e.g.: C:\Users\...your login...\Downloads).

So if you want to avoid these Microsoft bugs, you strictly MUST use this procedure:
  • copy/paste the WMF files from the common repository into the dedicated BeGraphic folder
  • use the option "Delete duplicate shapes"

Caution : don't try to put the WMF picture directly in the Excel file, because Microsoft Excel has several bugs that BeGraphic had to workaround
  • when ungroup, Excel often generate stacked copies of the same freeforms (some shapes are duplicated without border)
  • when ungroup, Excel often shrinks some sub-shapes (an annoying move of few pixels).

That's why BeGraphic includes two optional workarounds:
  • destroying all shapes that have approximatively the same size (even if few dots away)
  • adding thicker borders (to hide the shrinkage)

Hello,

I followed your instructions to save the map in the location specified in your e-mail. I keep getting this error message.

"Save as:
C:\Program files\BeGraphic\BeGraphic\Content\Maps\USA62.bmp
You don't have permission to save in this location."

I am currently using Windows 7 ultimate , office 2010 32 bit.

Please advise

Omar A

Dear BeGraphic user,

First of all please be sure to download WMF file format (WMF or EMF are the perfect file format).
Never download BMP files, because this format is useless for coloring countries.

Second: If you don't have permission to save in this location, that's because your login/password is not strong enough.
You can choose:
  • to re-open Windows using a more powerful login/password
  • or to do a manual import procedure, by doing first a manual download of the selected map (WMF file format), then within Excel demand to import this WMF image inside your Excel workbook. At the end when you will ungroup all shapes, from time to time you might find an Excel bug (for which BeGraphic made a work-around), but this is not crucial.

Regards

First you have to build the pie chart using :
the usual Excel charting engine (note: take out all details such as caption)
or the micro-charts library included inside BeGraphic ("SFE" menu)

Then you have to put this pie chart on the maps. There are two possibilities :
directly put the usual pie chart on the map (put an invisible background : format chart area / fill / no fill)
or use the "sub-dashboard" function to copy a range of cell (showing a pie chart) on the map

Note : the "sub-dashboard" function is the one that allows you to dynamically change the total size of the pie chart (not only its slices).
